Mardi Gras 2015 is fast approaching! Columbia’s first Mardi Gras Krewe, the Krewe de Columbi-ya ya is running Columbia’s Mardi Gras Parade! Everyone is welcome to come join in the fun. The parade will start at 11:00 am from in front of City Roots, and will wend its way on a (shorter) one hour route, bringing you back to City Roots Urban Farm for the Animal Mission Party Animals Mardi Gras. Parade starts staging at 10 am to roll at 11 am–SHARP! See the details on the Parade page on this website.
For those of you who need some exercise before a day of Mardi Gras festivities, your Krewe de Columbi-ya ya is organizing the LAGNIAPPE 5k run through Rosewood. Join the fun! For details on the 5k, see the Lagniappe 5k page on this website. Briefly, entry fee is $30 (which gets you in to the festival, too), with $5 for a dog (all the proceeds from your dog go directly to Animal Mission–dogs helping dogs!!–Ya YA!!). Check-in begins at 7 am, race gun at 8 am, and done by 9:30 am.
In 2014, Animal Mission (who had been the beneficiaries of the 2013 event) took over the responsibilities of the festival at City Roots from Krewe de Columbi-ya ya, so please see the Animal Mission event web site: http://www.partyanimalsmardigras.com/home.html for details regarding the festival itself. Don’t worry, though, the inimitable and irrepressible Tom Hall is organizing the musical lineup, which you can find on the Great Music page on this site.
Plan to come out for the best Mardi Gras festival in South Carolina on February 14, 2015. Join the parade, wear your finest, bring or buy some beads, and enjoy the great food, drink, and music! If you want to be a part of this, consider joining the Krewe de Columbia-ya ya! See the Join the Krewe page!
